# Cloudflare CNAME Proxy Settings

When adding a CNAME in Cloudflare, you’ll see an option to proxy the record (orange cloud) or leave it unproxied (grey cloud). Proxied records route traffic through Cloudflare’s edge network, while unproxied records resolve directly to the target host. For our integration to function properly, the CNAME must remain **unproxied** so that it always resolves to the correct service endpoint.

## Why This Is Important

- **Consistent and secure brand presentation** across emails.
- Support for Opensense's **email signature and tracking infrastructure.**

### CNAME Record *(New Entry)*

Opensense asks customers to create a CNAME Record within their DNS.

The CNAME record is described as follows:

| Record Type | Host/Name | Points To / Value |
| --- | --- | --- |
| CNAME | `smart` | `whs.sendergen.com` |

#### Instructions

- Create a new CNAME record where:
  - `smart` is the subdomain/host.
  - `whs.sendergen.com` is the target domain.
  - Toggle **OFF** Proxy Status = **DNS Only**

The interface above allows a customer to toggle the Cloudflare proxy **ON** or **OFF**. The Opensense CNAME should have the **proxy setting OFF.**
