# Editing your signature block data

## Overview

The [signature block](https://help.opensense.com/docs/what-is-the-opensense-signature-block) consists of fields that fill in a signature template, which gives you flexibility: change the field data to change the resulting signature. You edit the fields in your Opensense signature the same way you've always edited your email signature.

Fields must be [unlocked](https://help.opensense.com/docs/locking-unlocking-compliance-fields) for these edits to work. If you edit your signature and it **doesn't** change, your company's Opensense admin has enforced the directory value.

## One-time edit

If your fields are unlocked, you can edit your signature from the compose window. Change the data in the fields to change your transformed signature.

In this example, the user doesn't want to send their mobile number on a certain external email, so they delete it in the compose window:

## Permanent edit

To change your field data permanently, edit the signature in your signature settings, and **save** it. You can make this change in any email app you use: Outlook, Gmail, mobile apps, and others.
