# Removing the stamped signature from emails

## Overview

Stamping applies the signature to every email. But what if, in some circumstances, you don't want a signature on an email?

From the compose screen, users can choose to apply a blank template. Here's how to set up this option.

## Step 1: Create a blank template

In Designer Studio, select **+ Add New Template**. Name the template `blank`, and select **Save**.

:::note[Classic UI]
This step uses the classic Designer Studio. In the New UI, see [Creating a new signature](https://help.opensense.com/docs/creating-a-new-signature).

## Step 2: Save the optional signature in Outlook or Gmail

### Outlook

1. Open your signature settings:
   - **New Outlook and Outlook on the web:** select **Settings** > **Accounts** > **Signatures**, then **Add signature**.
   - **Classic Outlook for Windows:** select **File** > **Options** > **Mail** > **Signatures**.

2. Create a new signature named `blank`, and add this text, in plain text:

   ```text
   [[#]]
   name: Your Name
   [[#blank]]
   ```

3. Select **Save**.

4. In the compose screen, select the `blank` signature. When you send an email with this signature, it's sent without the graphic stamped signature.

### Gmail

1. In Gmail, go to **Settings** > **See all settings**, and on the **General** tab, find **Signature**. Select **+ Create new**, name the new signature `blank`, and add this text, in plain text:

   ```text
   [[+]]
   name: Your Name
   [[+blank]]
   ```

   ![Gmail signature settings with a signature named blank, and a compose window using it: the signature block ends in the blank template token](https://help.opensense.com/media/removestamp1-72ec197977ff.png)

2. Scroll to the bottom, and select **Save Changes**.

3. In the compose screen, select the `blank` signature, as in the screenshot. When you send an email with this signature, it's sent without the graphic stamped signature.
