# Resetting your Opensense password (non-SSO users)

## Overview

If you don't use single sign-on (SSO) to access your Opensense account, you can reset your password directly in the Opensense sign-in portal. This guide is only for users who sign in with an email and password, rather than through an SSO provider.

## Who this guide is for

This password reset process applies to you if you:

- Sign in directly to Opensense with your email and password
- Don't use SSO through providers like Google, Microsoft, or Okta
- Have a standalone Opensense account

:::note[Using SSO?]
If your organization uses SSO for authentication, reset your password through your SSO provider's system instead. If you're not sure which method you use, contact your IT administrator.

## Resetting your password

1. In your web browser, go to [**accounts.opensense.com**](https://accounts.opensense.com). This is the central hub for managing your Opensense account credentials.
2. Enter the email address of your Opensense account, and select **Next**.
3. Instead of entering your password, select the **Forgot Password** link. It's usually near the password field, or under the sign-in button.
4. Check your inbox for a password reset email from Opensense, with instructions. If you don't see it within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.
5. Select the password reset link in the email, and create a new password. It must meet Opensense's security requirements:
   - **At least 7 characters** long
   - At least **1 uppercase letter**
   - At least **1 lowercase letter**
   - At least **1 digit** (number)
   - At least **1 special character** (such as !, @, #, $, or %)

Choose a strong, unique password that you haven't used for other accounts.
6. Go back to [**accounts.opensense.com**](https://accounts.opensense.com), enter your email address and your new password, and sign in.

## Tips for password security

- **Use a password manager** to generate and store strong, unique passwords.
- **Turn on two-factor authentication**, if Opensense offers it, for an extra layer of security.
- **Never share your password** with anyone, even if they say they're from Opensense support.
- **Update your password regularly**, as part of good security hygiene.
