Why would you target banners this way?
Great for marketing teams with direct access to their CRM or Marketing Automation Platform, and who can set up the associated automation within that platform.
The first step is integrating Opensense with your CRM or Marketing Automation Platform is to connect the two using Zapier.
Step 1: Set Up the Integration
You'll be able to find the full instructions for setting up your integration here.
sgenads vs. sgentags
Now that the integration is set up, it is important to understand that the Opensense banner queries 2 fields in your CRM or Marketing Automation Platform.
1. sgenads
This field is configured on the Contact Record in your Marketing Automation Platform or CRM. They are used to assign a specific banner to a contact.
To assign a banner to a particular contact, update the sgenads property to the sgenads name. Accuracy of spelling and formatting is required. This can be done using bulk operations tools native to your Marketing Automation Platform or CRM.
2. sgentags
This field is configured on the Contact Record in your Marketing Automation Platform or CRM. They are used to assigns a group of banners to a contact.
To assign a group of banners to a particular contact, update the sgentags property to the chosen sgentag. Accuracy and formatting is required. This can be done using bulk operations tools native to your Marketing Automation Platform or CRM.
If you would like apply multiple tags to a contact record, you may do so by delimiting each tag with a comma.
💡 How Do You Know Which Field to Use?
Sometimes a specific banner is appropriate for targeted events, in other cases, a series of banners may be appropriate for a specific contact. sgentags allows you to create groups of banners that will display for a particular contact, rather than a specific banner.
Step 2: Set Up sgentag or sgenad in CRM or Marketing Automation Platform
- Create a list of contacts in your CRM or Marketing Automation Platform according to your criteria. This can be by persona, lifecycle stage, a specific list (i.e., event leads from a specific event), industry, or any ABM criteria.
- Connect that list in your CRM or Marketing Automation Platform to Opensense accordingly:
- Marketo: Use Smart Campaigns to update the sgenads or sgentags property for the desired list of contacts.
- Hubspot: Use Workflows to update the sgenads or sgentags property for the desired list of contacts.
- Pardot: Use Automation Rules to update the sgenads or sgentags property for the desired list of contacts.
- Eloqua: Use Automation to update the sgenads or sgentags property for the desired list of contacts.
- Salesforce: Use Process Builder to update the sgenads or sgentags property for the desired list of contacts.
- Marketo: Use Smart Campaigns to update the sgenads or sgentags property for the desired list of contacts.

Step 3: Set Up Ad Banner Campaign in Opensense
Check out How to create a new campaign to learn how to do this within Opensense.
You'll be able to add the tag(s) you set up in step 1 in the highlighted section in the picture below.
Once you have Opensense integrated with your CRM or Marketing Automation Platform, setting up tags is a breeze and will only take a couple minutes from now on.
💡 Pro-tip:
For any ABM campaign, if a contact record is associated with several tags that have been set up, then all the banners associated with the tags will show in a rotation. If it is important that only one banner be displayed, then the tag needs to be removed elsewhere. If there are two banners with different tags that need to show up, this can be achieved through an automation workflow or the equivalent in your CRM or Marketing Automation Platform.
