Banner Management

Prev Next

It is vital to be strategic about the naming conventions you use around ad banners because they power your analytics. Use these best practices to develop an organized strategy for your team.

Categories

Categories (1) are pre-populated in your account and are optional, but we suggest using them for better organization. For example, if your campaign is for an event you are sponsoring, such as INBOUND, choose the Event category. You can then choose a category and date range on the Performance dashboard to see analytics all your events within a particular date range.

Tags

Tags (1) tell the ad banner what recipients need to see the banner (see Targeting for more information on using tags for targeting). Tags are also crucial in helping you organize your ad banners. Think of them as your campaign level naming. For example, if you are sponsoring INBOUND, you can use “inbound24” as your tag. Running a G2 review customer campaign? Add a “g2review” tag. You can then compare tags on the Performance dashboard to analyze or compare campaigns.

Ad Names

Categories help you distinguish overarching campaign types (i.e., Events), tags help you organize your individual campaigns within the categories, and your ad Name (1) should drill down to individual banners. For example, if you have event banners for INBOUND, develop a recurring naming convention for event banners for all stages of your event (i.e., “inbound_24_pre”, “inbound_24_during”, etc.). Include identifiers, such as the date, offer, holiday, customer lifecycle stage, use case, or something to distinguish an A/B test. Drill down to specific banners on the Performance dashboard and easily compare A/B tests.
