Microsoft Entra Enterprise Applications for Opensense

Overview

When Opensense is integrated with your Microsoft 365 environment, three enterprise applications are installed in your Azure AD tenant. This article explains what each application does and what happens if it is removed. Use this as a reference if you see these applications in your Azure AD and need to verify their purpose.

All three applications are deployed during your Opensense onboarding with the guidance of an Opensense Implementation Engineer. Do not remove any of these applications without first consulting your Opensense account team.

Opensense Email Signatures

This application is the Opensense Outlook Add-in. It integrates directly with Outlook to apply centrally managed email signatures and is installed as part of your organization's email infrastructure during onboarding. Learn more in the Outlook Add-in Overview article.

If this application is removed, the Outlook Add-in will be automatically removed from users' Outlook toolbar within 48 to 72 hours. Signature behavior for all scoped users will stop.

Directory Sync v3.1

This application enables read-only access to your Azure Active Directory to sync user and group data into Opensense. It supports automatic directory syncs so that employee profile data in Opensense stays current with your directory. It does not modify any data in Azure AD.

If this application is removed, Opensense will no longer sync employee data from your directory. Signatures will continue to apply but will reflect stale user data until directory sync is restored.

Opensense Single Sign-On (OIDC)

This application enables single sign-on for Opensense administrators using the OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocol. It allows admins to log in to the Opensense portal using their Microsoft 365 credentials, providing secure authentication through your organization's existing identity infrastructure.

This application supersedes the older Opensense SSO (SAML) method. OIDC is the current standard for all new and existing deployments.

If this application is removed, administrators will no longer be able to log in to Opensense using their Microsoft 365 credentials.
