Fixing Duplicate Email Signatures in Google Workspace

Prev Next

This article explains why duplicate email signatures appear in Google Workspace when using Opensense Stamping, and how to resolve them by disabling local Gmail signatures.

Why duplicate signatures happen

Duplicate signatures occur when a user has a local Gmail signature enabled and Opensense stamping is active. Gmail adds a signature during email compose and Opensense adds a signature during mail flow resulting in two signatures.

Open Gmail settings

In Gmail, click Settings (gear) → See all settingsGeneralSignature.

  • Click here to navigate to your signature settings

Set both defaults to “No signature”

Under Signature defaults, set:
For new emails useNo signature
On reply/forward useNo signature

Remove custom signatures (optional)

If multiple signatures are listed, delete them to prevent re-selection.

Save changes

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes to apply the update.

Important!

Gmail will not apply updates unless you click Save Changes at the bottom of the Settings page.

Still seeing duplicate signatures?

  • If duplicate signatures persist after updating your Gmail settings, check the following:

    • Disable the Mobile Signature in Gmail (iOS/Android):

      • Open the Gmail app on your mobile device.

      • Tap the three horizontal lines (☰) in the top-left corner.

      • Scroll down and select Settings.

      • Choose your email account (if multiple are configured).

      • Tap Signature settings.

      • Toggle off Mobile Signature.

Once disabled, Gmail will no longer append a separate mobile signature, ensuring that only the Opensense-stamped signature appears.

  • Ensure other email clients and/or third party applications aren’t appending signatures.

  • Verify domain-level Gmail compliance footers are adding signature-like content.
